Der Linguin is a research tool that has been developed by the Plurilingualism research unit of treffpunkt sprachen at the University of Graz.
Its goal is the documentation of linguistic diversity in public space. When speaking about linguistic diversity we mean all languages and dialects spoken as first, second or foreign language. With this documentation we aim at localising linguistic diversity in time and space by making historical and contemporary linguistic plurality visible on a linguistic landscape. This shall raise awareness of the linguistic plurality in our own environment.
The participatory character of data collection contributes to raising awareness of the existing plurality. Students and people interested take part in documenting the linguistic plurality of their environment.

Now you can do the following:
The former makes sense if you are currently offline or sending data is expensive. You can upload the saved ones later, e.g. at home. Use the "Upload saved" button in the menu.
If possible, save the files into one single folder in order to easily find them again later. You can upload the files (with the pattern "DerLinguinPhoto-LONGITUDE-LATITUDE-DATE.lng") all at once. Just keep in mind, that this can take some time. After you have uploaded the files, you can delete them from your phone.
This is a web app. If you open the website once, all necessary files are cached on your device so that you can use it offline too. Therefore please check if caching is supported and activated in your browser.
